Who's using it? - Scan2CAD in Education

Staff at the TAFE (Technical and Further Education) NSW Hunter Institute - the largest trainer of apprentices and trainees in the Hunter and Central Coast region of Australia - evaluated a number of raster to vector converters over the years.

Finding Scan2CAD to be intuitive and easy to use, they purchased a 50+ Seat Lab Licence to use in the digitizing / scanning / raster to vector conversion component of their CAD courses.

Convert both raster and vector PDFs with our Scan2CAD / PDF2CAD bundle!

PDF files can be either raster or vector. Raster PDF files are normally created by scanning a paper drawing and saving it as PDF. Vector PDF files are normally created by saving PDF from within a CAD program.

The two types of PDF are completely different. Raster PDF files are raster images such as a TIFF held within a PDF wrapper. Like any other raster image you need a raster to vector converter such as Scan2CAD in order to convert them to CAD format.

Vector PDF files on the other hand already contain vectors such as lines, so the process of converting them to CAD format is different.

Scan2CAD Pro can convert raster PDF files to CAD format, however for vector PDF files you need a dedicated vector PDF converter. PDF2CAD is one such converter.

We are offering a Scan2CAD Pro / PDF2CAD bundle that will allow you to convert both raster and vector PDF files to CAD at a special bundle price of USD 499 / GBP 319 / EUR 419.

Quick tip - dash lines

The default setting we have to change most often when vectorizing images in Scan2CAD is the Max Dash Length setting.

Often, the dash lines on an image are longer than the default Max Dash Length, which means that dash lines are not recognized.

If the dash lines on your image are recognized as a series of short individual lines rather than as one long dash line, try going to Type Menu > Settings > Advanced Tab and doubling or even quadrupling the Max Dash Length. You should also ensure that Dash Line is selected in the Object Identification Tab.

If you have a Scan2CAD tip you would like to share, please email us.
