Trim or extend a vector

Although the diagrams below show lines, you can trim or extend any vector type.

1. If grab points are not displayed, press the G or P keys to display them. Use View Menu > Grab Point Size to make the grab points bigger or smaller.
2. Do either of the following:
Click , press \ or select Vector Edit Menu > Modify > Move Grab Point to trim or extend a vector.
Click or select Vector Edit Menu > Move Grab Point Ortho to trim or extend a vector and to make it horizontal or vertical if possible.
3. Make sure that the Between Ends Snap is on.
4. Enclose the end of the vector to be trimmed or extended and the vector to trim or extend to within the circle around the cursor (Grab Snap Distance).

               

You can increase the size of the circle by pressing the Period key (the key with > on it) or decrease it by pressing the Comma key (the key with < on it).

5. Click.

The vector is trimmed or extended to the other vector.

 

If View Vector Ghosts is selected the old position of the vector is shown as a gray “ghost”.

 

Click to undo.

 

If a Pick Color is selected you can only trim Pick Colored vectors.

1. If grab points are not displayed, press the G or P keys to display them. Use View Menu > Grab Point Size to make the grab points bigger or smaller.
2. Do either of the following:
Click , press \ or select Vector Edit Menu > Modify > Move Grab Point to trim or extend the vectors.
Click or select Vector Edit Menu > Modify > Move Grab Point Ortho to trim or extend the vectors and to make them horizontal or vertical if possible.
3. Make sure that Attach End Points is on.
4. Make sure that the End Point Snap is on.
5. Enclose the ends of the vectors to be trimmed or extended within the circle around the cursor (the Grab Snap Distance).

               

You can increase the size of the circle by pressing the Period key (the key with > on it) or decrease it by pressing the Comma key (the key with < on it).

6. Click.

The vectors are trimmed or extended to form a neat corner.

 

If View Vector Ghosts is selected the old position of the vector(s) is shown as a gray “ghost”.

 

Click to undo.

 

If a Pick Color is selected you can only trim Pick Colored vectors.
