Converting raster images for CAD

1. Start here

Before jumping into converting your designs start with this tutorial to learn how to get the best results.

2. Clean the image

Most images should be cleaned before they are converted. Otherwise you will have a poor quality conversion.

In this tutorial we clean a JPEG image which has many problematic areas including image distortion, speckles and jagged lines.

3. Convert to vector

In the following tutorial we perform a vectorization & OCR on a technical drawing. In subsequent videos we will take a deeper look at the vectorization and OCR settings.

4. Object recognition

Scan2CAD will convert elements in your image to the correct CAD vector element. It does this with Object Recognition, in this tutorial we look at these vectorisation settings.

5. Convert text (OCR)

Unlike other OCR software solutions, Scan2CAD will scan your image looking for text and other elements. Text will be converted using OCR and other elements in your image will be converted with vectorization.

In this tutorial we look at the OCR settings.

6. Vector editing

After converting your design you may want to neaten up parts of it. In this tutorial we look at some simple vector editing features.

7. Input scaling/dimensions

Ensure your converted vector design has the correct scaling/dimensions. In this tutorial we’ll demonstrate the two methods for assigning scaling/dimensions.

8. Save vector file

Save your vector file to any popular vector format such as DXF, DWG, PDF or G-code. In this tutorial we look at the vector export options.
