What the Maximum and Minimum Character Size Limits do

Text on an image normally falls within a given size range. The Maximum and Minimum Character Size Limits allow Scan2CAD to filter out items that are not within this size range, therefore reducing the chance of non text items being recognized as text.

Scan2CAD only recognizes an item as text if it is smaller than the Maximum Character Size Limit but larger than the Minimum Character Size Limit. Maximum and Minimum Character Size Limits are measured in pixels.

Set the Maximum Character Size Limit

Do not set the Maximum Character Size Limit to a very large value in the hope of recognizing all the text on the image. If you do this, Scan2CAD is likely to miss text on the image even though it is smaller than the Maximum Limit. Set the Maximum Character Size Limit to a value slightly larger than the height of the largest text on the image.

For raster images the best way to do this is using OCR Menu > Char Size > Raster.

If performing an Exploded vector text to OCR conversion then use OCR Menu > Char Size > Vector.

You can also set the Maximum Character Size Limit in the OCR Settings dialog, which appears when you select OCR Menu > Settings.

Set the Minimum Character Size Limit

Set the Minimum Character Size Limit in the OCR Settings dialog, which appears when you select OCR Menu > Settings.

The default Minimum Character Size Limit for Raster images is 6 and for Vector exploded text is 1. Items smaller than these limits are more likely to be speckles than text.
