About cropping an image
When you crop an image you discard the parts of a raster image that are outside a user-defined rectangular area. Cropping is particularly useful when you have ‘useless information’ outside of the main element of your image. By cropping you will not-only neaten up the image, you will also be able to cater your vectorization settings specifically for the main element in your image rather than worrying about vectorizing useless information.
