Scan a drawing that is larger than your scanner

If you have a drawing that is larger than your scanner you can scan it in pieces (“tiles”) and then fit the tiles back together in Scan2CAD before vectorization.

 

1. Scan the drawing in tiles

Scan your drawing in tiles and save each tile as an individual file.

OR

If your scanner is Twain-compliant and is connected to the PC that Scan2CAD is installed on you can go straight to Step 2. You will scan your drawing directly into Scan2CAD in Steps 3 and 4 below.

 

2. Create a blank target sheet
a) Select File Menu > Tile > Create Target Sheet.
b) In the dialog, select the following options:

 

 

 

c) Click OK.

 

3. Add the first tile to the target sheet
a) Select File Menu > Tile > Add Tile from File.

Use the dialog to select the file containing the first tile. Click Open. The tile is pasted into the target sheet.

OR

Select File Menu > Tile > Add Tile from Twain Source.

Add Tile from Twain Source starts up your scanner software. Use your scanner software to scan a tile. The tile is pasted into the target sheet.

b) Move the tile into position and rotate or scale it if necessary.

 Tiles can be large and slow to move. Before moving the tile, you may want to select outline view. To toggle between outline view and detail view, press Shift+O or right click and select Outline View.

c) When you are satisfied with the position of the first tile, right click and select Complete Action.

 

4. Add another tile to the target sheet
a) Right click and choose Merge With or Copy Over. These options define how the new tile will be pasted with respect to the tiles that have already been added to the target sheet.
b) Select File Menu > Tile > Add Tile from File.

Use the dialog to select a file containing a tile. Click Open. The tile is pasted into the target sheet.

OR

Select File Menu > Tile > Add Tile from Twain Source.

Add Tile from Twain Source starts up your scanner software. Use your scanner software to scan a tile. The tile is pasted into the target sheet.

c) Move the tile into position and rotate or scale it if necessary.

As you move the tile into position you can press M on your keyboard to magnify, D to demagnify, and the Delete key to step back through zoom views. You can also zoom in and out by scrolling your mouse wheel forwards and backwards, and pan by pressing your mouse wheel down and moving your mouse.

d) When you are satisfied with the position of the tile, right click and select Complete Action.

 

5. Repeat Step 4 until all the tiles have been added
6. Save the raster image using File Menu > Raster > Save As

 

Click to undo.
