Troubleshooting vector editing

If you have problems editing vectors, check the following:

Is a Pick Color selected?

If a Pick Color is selected the vector editing tools only work on Pick Colored vectors.

You can turn off the Pick Color by pressing the U key.

Is the vector within the Grab Snap Distance?

Make sure that the vector or grab point you are trying to edit is within the Grab Snap Distance.

Is Attach End Points on or off?

If Vector Edit Menu > Modify > Move Grab Point or Move Grab Point Ortho is not behaving as you expected, it is likely that Attach End Points is turned off.

There is a message at the bottom of the screen that reads ATON if Attach End Points is turned on and ATOFF if it is turned off. If it is turned off, press the A key to toggle it back on.

Is a Grid Snap Distance set?

If Vector Edit Menu > Modify > Move Grab Point or Move Grab Point Ortho is not behaving as you expected, it is likely that a Grid Snap Distance is set and that the cursor is snapping to the grid points.

Are the End Point Snap and/or the Between Ends Snap on?

If Vector Edit Menu > Modify > Move Grab Point or Move Grab Point Ortho is not behaving as you expected, it is likely that the End Point Snap and/or the Between Ends Snap are turned on and that the cursor is snapping to vectors.

Does the vector editing tool you are using operate on the type of vector you are trying to edit?

Some vector editing tools only operate on particular vector types. See each individual tool description for a list of the vector types it operates on.

Is the vector you are trying to edit the type of vector you think it is?

A vector that looks like a normal line could be an arrow line, hatch line, polyline, Bezier curve or shallow arc.

To determine what type of vector a vector is do either of the following:

Press C to view vectors by type.
Click on then pass your cursor over the vector. The vector is highlighted and its type is displayed.

Are more than two vectors joined at a grab point?

If more than two vectors are attached to a grab point you are trying to remove, Vector Edit Menu > Modify > Join Vectors won’t work and nothing will happen.

Are you trying to join an arc or Bezier curve to another vector?

If you are trying to join an arc or Bezier curve to another vector and a new, valid arc or Bezier curve cannot be created from the joined vectors, Vector Edit Menu > Modify > Join Vectors won’t work and nothing will happen.
