Vectorize text only (OCR)

Click here if you want to vectorize a color image to color vectors.

This method converts text on the raster image to editable vector text using OCR.

What is OCR?
OCR stands for Optical Character Recognition. This means that Scan2CAD recognizes the text on the raster image as proper editable text rather than making it up out of lines and arcs.

1. Go through the Raster Quality Checklist.
2. Go through the Raster Text Quality Checklist.
3. To convert text on the whole image make sure the whole image is displayed. You can display the whole image by clicking or pressing the Home key.

To convert text on part of the image select the area(s) of text you want to convert.

If you convert the image in parts you can use different OCR settings on different areas of the image and can ignore areas of the image that don’t contain any text. This means that the conversion will be quicker and that Scan2CAD will be less likely to recognize text where none exists.

5. Click , press the F6 key or select Run Menu > OCR.

Text in the selected area(s) is converted to editable vector text using OCR.

To undo the text conversion, press Ctrl+F6 or select Run Menu > Undo OCR.

Assuming you have OCR Menu > Settings > Strings selected, the vector text is displayed by type – i.e. it is colored magenta. Press C on your keyboard to view the text in its actual colors.
