1. Start Here

Scan2CAD is the leading raster and vector conversion software for CAD/CAM and CNC.

If the design you wish to convert is a raster image then for best results, the steps you will follow are:

1. Clean
Use Scan2CAD’s Raster Effects to remove image noise and make it suitable for conversion.
2. Convert
Accurately convert your designs.
3. Edit
Make final edits to your designs and set accurate scaling/dimensions.

In the following tutorials we will walk you through these steps starting with cleaning your design using Raster Effects.

2. Raster Effects

Scan2CAD’s Raster Effects are tools to help you quickly clean your image making it suitable for conversion.

Thresholding and removing image noise

In this tutorial we clean a JPEG image which has many problematic areas including image distortion, speckles and jagged lines.

Using Color Segmentation

An image doesn't need to be just black and white (monochrome) to be suitable for conversion. In this tutorial we use Scan2CAD's 'Segment Colors' feature to intelligently reduce the number of required colors in a color design.

3. Convert

When converting your design you can utilize Scan2CAD’s vectorization presets. Edit the default presets for granular control of your conversion.

Converting Technical Drawings

In the following tutorial we perform a vectorization on a technical drawing. With this type of vectorization we are using Scan2CAD’s Shape Recognition and OCR technology.

Converting text in your designs (OCR)

In previous tutorials we have briefly touched on using OCR during conversion.

Converting a vector PDF (and other vector files)

In the tutorials so far we've looked at how we would convert a raster image to the suitable vector format. In this tutorial we will convert a vector PDF to DXF or DWG.
We will also use Scan2CAD's PDF import options to convert the elements in the PDF to the correct vector entities.

4. Vector Editing

After converting your design you may wish to make final amendments. Scan2CAD has a suite of editing tools for this purpose.

5. Input Scaling/Dimensions

Scan2CAD has two options for ensuring your design is to scale or has the correct dimensions.
You can set the vector design’s scaling from the original raster image’s DPI or you can define your dimensions manually.
